Class Overview

This class is about building confidence, quick-thinking, recall, creativity and camaraderie. And confidence. And kindness.

Confidence: Students will perform drama exercises, improvisations, monologues, and scenes in front of each other.

Quick-Thinking: Warm up exercises will include reacting to surprises and paying attention to more than one thing at a time. Improvisations are all about quick-thinking.

Recall: Students will perform memorized monologues and scenes in class.

Creativity: Students will write character description and dialogue. Students will be given situations in which they must improvise a scene for the class.

Camaraderie: Students may criticize in appropriate and helpful ways when asked by the teacher or by the student performer. Students must be supportive and enthusiastic for assignments and students attempting their best to fulfill assignments. A student who is not supportive of others will have their grade adversely affected.

Students will get a weekly grade that starts at 25 points and goes done 1 point for non-participation in warm ups or classwork such as improvisations and rehearsal. Points will also be taken away for disruptive or non-supportive behavior. This weekly grade is 60% of the overall grade. Disruptive behavior includes tardies, being off-task, talking when attention is required, and being rude to other students during rehearsal or performances.

Performances such as monologues and plays count for 25% of the grade..

The remaining 15% of the overall class grade will come from class assignments such as creative writing of characters and scenes, thoughtful commentary on performances and other written assignments.
